Rozome II Sekidashi –Barrier Resist Image Making

This is a unique workshop for those who want to do some intensive work with image-making in Japanese style soy/beeswax resist. Its designed for advanced beginners and intermediate level students and will start with reviewing a number of traditional wax and dye application techniques unique to Japan; brushing, rolling, sprinkling, stamping and stenciling; then moving onto to more advanced level work focusing on the exquisite sekidashi barrier resist and refined han-bosen half resist techniques. The course expands on knowledge of Japanese dyeing process of bokashi the controlled dye shading that produces such luminous results on silk to include detailed background dyeing information for large-scale projects. All techniques are demonstrated and slides and videos are included of contemporary work. Open to serious beginners with textile dyeing experience as well as batik professionals.
Five day course       Saturday, May 15 – Wednesday May 19   Nichols College, Dudley MA (25 mins from Worcester)

$650 including course and accommodation in private room and some meals.

Trunk Show/Lecture in Sudbury on 9/12/2011 by Ann Lee and Sonja Lee-Austin

Mother-daughter team, Ann Lee and Sonja Lee-Austin, will be sharing their separate and joint histories in quilting and fiber art in “Running the Rapids: A Quilt Journey” at the Wayside Quilters Guild Monday night September 12.  The guild meets at the Goodnow Library in Sudbury, MA at 7:00 p.m.  Visitors are welcome.  There is no admission fee.

Fall Class in Arlington MA by Linda B. Dunn

Linda B. Dunn teaches THE SEDUCTIVE SURFACE this fall at the Arlington Center for the Arts. All levels welcome.

In THE SEDUCTIVE SURFACE you will explore the elements of design while you create your own gorgeous fabrics.

Each week introduces a different technique, from random marks through screens, stencils and thermofax printing. You will make your own tools and build a portfolio of samples you can refer to time and again once the class is done. Along the way we will discuss color, scale, placement and layering, as you search for combinations that make fabrics sing.

No sewing. You provide the fabric. All other materials are included. Class starts October 6 and runs for 8 weeks. Enrollment limited.

Nancy Crasco workshop offerings

Nancy Crasco will be teaching the following classes at the Arsenal Center for the Arts in Watertown this fall. Both will be fiber friendly.

DESIGN AND COMPOSITION Knowledge of the elements of design and their function in composition is essential to creating successful works in all genre and media. This course will provide students with the ability to compose and/or improve existing works using basics principles in order to achieve a harmonious and balanced result. Open to all levels. Begins Sat Oct 1 – Nov 26, 10 am – 12 noon

MIXED MEDIA This class will include weekly structured exercises using a variety of media focusing on the elements of design and using them to create a mixed media work on a specific theme. The exploration of a stated theme will generate ideas to encourage creativity through personal expression. This class will not cover basic or traditional techniques- it is best for the student with some experience in art making. (Limit 10) Begins Wed Oct 5 – Nov 30, 9am – 11:30 am

‘some things looming’ in Reading, PA  proudly presents, “Felt So Good” an exhibit demonstrating the versatility of felt. This exhibit presents over 30 examples of the medium.  Vicki Jensen is one of 15 artisans, from across the country, utilizing felt techniques to express themselves in some surprising and always delightful ways, this show must not be missed. Three of her art pieces in felt are included in this exhibition.

Sandy Gregg – also accepted in Text on Textiles: Words as Design on Quilts

Sandy Gregg has had one of her quilts accepted in the juried exhibition, Text on Textiles: Words as Design on Quilts, which will debut in Houston this fall.  Sandy is one of 26 artists selected for this exhibition, which will be traveling over the next three years. The title of her piece is “Gentle Rain.”

Priscilla Smith – Text on Textiles: Words as Design on Quilts

Congratulations to Priscilla Smith for having two of her textiles accepted in the juried exhibition, Text on Textiles: Words as Design on Quilts.  Priscilla is one of 26 artists selected for this exhibition, which will be traveling over the next three years. Her selected pieces are “Letters Home to Mom” and “The Words of War”.
